Spooky Season: Halloween in Gaming

Halloween has become the season where brand new spooky and quirky events are introduced in games. This year especially, there are so many events that you're likely to get overwhelmed. However, fear not, because we've have put together a list of the best Halloween events for you to take part in, just in case you don't have the time to get to them all.

Dead by Daylight is getting a rather unique Halloween event in the form of a paid DLC pack. The pack contains a new map from the film Halloween, and introduces a new playable killer that many will know as Michael Meyers, and a new victim in the form of Laurie Strode. Head here for more.

Destiny's Festival of the lost has already kicked off this year and this time around it's bigger than ever. The Tower, Reef, and Iron Temple have all been redecorated to match the event, and players can go trick or treating to earn themselves a paper mask. There is also a plethora of new masks, emotes and more for you to get your hands on, albeit for a limited time. Head this way to find out more.

The Elder Scrolls Online's Halloween event is called the Witches Festival, and features a quest called The Witchmother's Bargain. Completion of this quest will give you and a party the ability to become undead; killing bosses in this form will net you Plunder Skulls, which can be used to buy special themed masks, recipes and much more. EA Sports titles FIFA, Madden and NHL might not seem like great targets for a Halloween-themed event, but EA has managed to make it happen anyway. In each game's ultimate team mode, a select number of players are being given stat boosts and will be available via packs. Think of them as 'in-form' players but slightly better and with a different look. In each game, there are also opportunities to unlock special themed kits and other cosmetics. GTA Online is once again getting the Halloween treatment with a plethora of new content being made available. For starters, there's a new themed Adversary mode, Lost vs Damned, which will see a team of devils take on a team of angels, with various effects like a 60-second day/night cycles. In the main portion of Online, you can grab the new LCC Sanctus motorcycle with a glowing skull on the front, and take advantage of discounts on loads of items and vehicles. Heroes of the storm has received a bunch of new content for its own 'Hallow's End' event. All matches played grant you a bonus 50% exp, and playing 15 matches gets you the Deputy Valla portrait. There are also two new skins; Deputy Valla and Scarecrow Xul. You can also buy one of two bundles on the store, which will get you a unique Eye Pad mount. Hit this link to find out more.

League of Legends creator Riot Games has always gone the extra mile for its events, and this time is no different. The event this time is called The Teemoing, and introduces a limited time PvE game-mode, Doom Bots of Doom, which sees you going up against AI that have been incredibly scaled up in difficulty and power. Overwatch get its first Halloween event, and it has set quite the precedent for the future. The Overwatch Halloween Terror event has brought in a new limited-time PvE game mode, Junkenstein's Revenge, in which players will be tasked with fighting off waves of 'Zomnics' at various difficulties. Every single one of the 23 heroes has also received something new, with Legendary skins going to Mercy, Junkrat, Roadhog, and Reaper. Click in this direction to find out more.

Paragon's The Shadow's Eve event has kicked off, and players will be able to grab six spooky skins from the store. The playable character Murdock has also received a skin that everyone can use for the duration of the event, and you can also unlock the skin permanently for free by linking your account with Twitch. Pokémon Go is getting in on the spooky activities this Halloween. For the next few days if you're playing Pokémon Go you'll notice that a few of the 'spookier' Pokémon, like Cubone or Ghastly, are appearing more often. On top of these increased spawn rates, you will be able to get double candy drops from transfers, catches, and hatches, as well as 4x candy from your buddy Pokémon. Rocket League and Psyonix are joining in on the Halloween action by adding new items to their unlock rotation. The items from last year's event are coming back, as well as a bunch of new trails, hats, toppers, and more. Smite's Arena mode map has received quite the makeover, giving it a lick of Halloween paint. A new consumable called Scare Tactics is in the mode, too, which lets you jump scare an enemy as you close in for the kill. On top of this, Fenrir and Awilix have both received Halloween themed skins, and the Halloween Chest has made its return, bringing all the older skins back into the game for a short time. Street Fighter 5, instead of bringing the free content, has introduced a plethora of premiumDLC for a limited amount of time. If you're interested, there are seven new spookily-themed skins for fighters and a new stage that can be purchased with fight money. Head this way for more.

Team Fortress 2 isn't a huge event this year. Instead, every single one of the previous events is making a return, meaning you'll be able to play all of the old Scream Fortress maps for a limited time. World of Warcraft sees The Hallow's End returns this year, meaning you can engage in trick-or-treating sessions in inns across the world. In return for this, you'll be given either treats or money that can in-turn be spent on some of the new items, which can be used to affect party members or pets. War Thunder might not feel an obvious fit with the seasonal theme, however, there are some neat Halloween treats in store for players this year. From October 28 until November 2 pilots can partake in witches races with the Polikarpov Po-2 and there is also a racing event with an "enchanted" M18 Hellcat tank.
