Thimbleweed Park - It's easy to forget that Thimbleweed Park is a mobile title as well as a console/PC game, but it's true, as you can take the point and click adventure with you on the go via Android/iOS devices. Admittedly more suited to tablets, we greatly enjoyed exploring the charming world on the go, especially since our fingers were a touch quicker than the cursor on something like the PS4. It's a great adventure game anyway, packed with personality, and having it in mobile form too was just an added bonus.

Metroid: Samus Returns - Game Boy title Metroid II: Return of Samus was reinvented via Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS this year, a game that put us into the shoes of Samus Aran once again while we patiently wait for another Metroid Prime game. Just like the good old days, we went from room to room, gradually unlocking different areas to explore with new abilities, like Power Bombs and grapple, and it felt just like putting on a comfortable pair of trousers again, albeit with a bit more visual polish.

Ever Oasis - You just have to take one look at Ever Oasis to realise it's a stunningly vibrant game, packed with bright colours everywhere you look. The RPG is far more than just a visual spectacle though, as you'll guide a party of adorable characters into various dungeons, battling monsters and solving puzzles to unlock tantalising loot, and there's plenty of depth in there for RPG fans to dive into as well, especially when you consider that you can create your own Oasis too.

Old Man's Journey - One of the very best mobile games this year was Old Man's Journey, which landed on touchscreen devices back in May. It's a delicate, subtle, and emotional game that gently tests the player while also tugging on the old heartstrings. Players are invited to take the titular old man on a reflective journey through a beautifully realised world. It's a short experience, and at times bittersweet, but it's one that we'd happily recommend to anyone who enjoys thoughtful interactive experiences.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony - The PS Vita played host potentially the darkest Danganronpa game to date (which is saying something) in the form of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony this year. Here we were introduced to an all new set of students, a remarkably bleak narrative with a thrilling conclusion, and a truckload of surprises mixed in with it, all of which is dripping in a neon-themed visual style. It's one of the wildest rides Spike Chunsoft has offered us, but after waiting five years for a new entry, we were incredibly pleased to get back into the Killing Game again... even if it was full of horrors.
