One of the aspects that's most praised about Nier: Automata is its visual design, and nowhere is this more obvious than the theme park level in the game, a level that concept artist Kazuma Koda talks about on Square Enix's blog, discussing the development of the fan-favourite location, especially in regards to these pictures:

"The above images were captured in-game. If you've played through the game already, the amusement park it illustrates may be familiar already," he explained. "I tried to capture a very specific time of day in such a setting; we're at a point when the park's evening events are just starting to kick off, and the park's daytime attendees are starting to head home. It adds to the atmosphere of both the location and scene. Personally, I really like this setting! "

"But how did we end up with this final, evocative shot? Well, the concept artwork I am sharing with you today will showcase how it came to be. (The art looks much more appealing in the actual game. I really do appreciate the work from the background artists!)"

More artwork and details on the level's creation can be found on the blog post (although we've included some artwork down below), where Kazuma outlines the whole process for us, as the team moves from including features, to lighting, and then to running everything past director Yoko Taro before small details are added. Is the amusement park your favourite place in Nier: Automata?
