Wild West Online ditches Kickstarter after securing funding

And it's skipping Early Access too, with a 2017 launch planned.

Wild West Online has been getting people a little excited over the last few days, largely because it looks pretty good and has a touch of Red Dead about it.

The MMO was going to hit Kickstarter and then Steam Early Access, but since the game shot to prominence (pardon the pun), 612 Games has decided to skip both and take aim (another pun, we're so sorry) at a full launch later this year.

On top of that, proposed stretch goals are now planned to be in place at launch, including "female characters, rich role-playing and social activities such as card games, and localisation." Once the game is out in the wild (this is getting silly now), 612 has already indicated a desire to support the game with post-launch expansions.

"The community's response to Wild West Online is something we never imagined and thanks to it we're able to fully develop a robust Western experience for PC," said 612 CCO Stephan Bugaj. "We've been fortunate enough to have our initial investors step up and provide additional funding to make the game we wanted, without having to raise money via crowdfunding. Westerns are lacking on PC so we can't wait to release the game to the public."

Will Wild West Online draw in enough lawmen and bandits to help it compete with Red Dead Redemption 2 and any online component that Rockstar's game may or may not have? And, more importantly, will our puns get any better before the game launches on PC later this year? Time will tell on both fronts.
