In early 2016, a small indie studio Phantom 8 was founded in Berlin to start their work on its ambitious tile Past Cure. The game tries to mix up action and horror with elements of an interactive thriller and stealth missions, and we'll also go full Rambo in Past Cure too, because we take control over the elite soldier Ian, who is well trained in the use of rifles and his bare fists.

His military background seems to be one of the more important topics in the game, due to excruciating experiments he has had to overcome. On the other side, these therapies show some signs of success, and so we can use supernatural abilities like telekinesis or slowing the time down while shooting. Of course, those powers come with a dangerous cost, as every time we use them, Ian will suffer horrible side effects. That's why Ian and his brother Markus seek out the people in charge, as they want revenge for what they've done to him.

"In the world of Past Cure, two dimensions offer two realities - the waking world, and nightmare - coming together in a game aptly described as 'Inception meets Fight Club meets John Wick'," the press release summarises.

Past Cure will release at the end of the year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and if you want to know more, you can head here. Does this sound like a unique idea to you?

REVIEW. Written by Kieran Harris

"Its seven-chapter story is a bizarre mashup of ideas, but there's no kind of cohesive thread to tie it all together."
