We caught up with producer Jason Schroeder to learn more about how The Fractured but Whole is coming together, the challenges of getting it through various rating processes, and much more.

"People's expectations are that South Park is going to push that limit (of what's been allowed in a video game) and our goal is that we're going to just try and be authentic to that", says Schroeder. "And that means we know the ratings guidelines and we try and say 'this is going to qualify'.

"We're actually working with those boards really closely and we want to make sure that everyone around the world is going to get to see all of the content and play all of the content.

"At the same time we need to not compromise on that content. We wouldn't be doing our jobs if we weren't kind of at risk of having stuff get censored."

The process of getting the humour of South Park into the game, and work with South Park Studios is somewhat different than most games.

"When it comes to seeing a joke, sometimes it reads really well in the script and then you play it and it's like ugh", says Schroeder about the process of getting the South Park brand comedy into the game. "That just needs another run, it needs another revolution or let's see if we can just put it in a different character's mouth and see if it comes across funny the way we expect it."

South Park: The Fractured but Whole is due out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 17.
