"I hate music". "I hate movies". "I hate videogames". Two statements sound weird, don't make sense.
The following video is the full 44 minute Gamelab 2017 panel by Ovosonico's Massimo Guarini, creative head and co-founder of the studio. For the most part, the speech focuses on why videogames are still perceived like that, why in 2017 they "fail to reach a broader audience" despite being "a great expression media".
In a pretty interesting speech, Guarini thinks "you may not like genres" and tries to understand and describe games as an art form which is now introducing emotional involvement, and not just challenge for players. The aim is the aforementioned statement not making any sense anymore, same as it doesn't sound right for music and movies.
Guarini also touches on his "reverse career" from a huge studio such as Ubisoft Montreal, to directing Shadows of the Damned at Grasshopper Manufacure and finally creating his own indie outlet, which after Murasaki Baby is now a 17 people team and releasing Last Day of June in just a month's time.
At the 27 minute mark (and during the Q&A session at the end) the Italian has some words about his new game, the reactions so far and the development of the project. As a very fitting example, Guarini describes how musician Steven Wilson, now key to Last Day of June, was convinced by a prototype of the game, admitting "I didn't think videogames could be also this".
