We've just found out that there's a new cover coming for NBA 2K18, as the cover star, Kyrie Irving, has officially signed with the Boston Celtics after leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers. 2K will therefore be forced to change the cover of the game to match the transfer.

To confirm this news is the senior vice president of basketball operations for 2K, Jason Argent, who reported this to GameInformer USA.

"We are excited to be part of one of the most memorable NBA offseasons in history with Kyrie, our 2K18 cover athlete, and Isaiah, one of the stars of our 2K roster, trading places," he explained. "This isn't an unprecedented event, a cover athlete being traded - but it's certainly interesting timing with 2K18 being released in less than a month. The good news is that as the most authentic and realistic basketball game on the market, we're used to being nimble and responding to changes in the NBA. Fans should be thrilled to know that we will issue a version of 2K18 featuring Kyrie in a Boston Celtics uniform at a later date."

We don't know at the moment whether the cover will still be ready in time for the launch, given the upcoming release, or whether it will be modified after the release of the game, but we're certainly curious to see Irving with the new Boston Celtics jersey.

NBA 2K18 will be available on September 15 on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. What do you make of the real life transfer?
