During Gamescom we got to try our hand at Battlefield 1's newly announced Incursion mode, the series's first foray into the world of competitive gaming.
While we were visiting EA's booth in Cologne to try the game, we also had the opportunity to talk to producer David Sirland about what Incursions is, the studio's immediate plans, and how they're balancing small-scale 5v5 battles that still include vehicular support:
"So we're approaching it using an in-game progression system which resets every round," Sirland told us, "which allows us to create a power spike for both the kits and the vehicle kits - early, mid or late game - and that way we can ensure that balance is ever shifting. And eventually, if you pick a late game kit or vehicle you will reach your full potential, but you might have lost the game already. So it's all about building your team together with your teammates and using what fits the situation the best."
