It was widely expected that Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire would be published by Paradox Interactive who published the original game, as well as its "Complete Edition" on consoles recently and another Obsidian game, Tyranny. But alas, Obsidian Entertainment opted for another publisher for Pillars of Eternity 2, namely Versus Evil. The game is still set to launch early in 2018 on PC (as well as Mac and Linux).

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

The sequel that was crowdfunded/invested in to the tune of $4.4 million on Fig offers a pirate-themed adventure where you sail through the Deadfire Archipelago.

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart had this to say via press release: "We are thrilled to be working with the team at Versus Evil on Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, the first sequel we've ever made into one of our own IPs. Partnering with a team that is as passionate as we are about making Pillars of Eternity outstanding has already been such a gratifying and exciting experience. We know that Steve and his team will treat Deadfire right and help us make it the game that our incredible fans and generous backers expect and deserve."

We caught up with two members of the development team, Nick Carver and Alec Frey, during E3, and you can check out that interview below:
