The holidays are creeping up fast, and that means that there'll be tough competition between all the major consoles in terms of sales. One report by the Financial Post, using IDC research, has looked into the upcoming war between the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X this holiday season, and it looks pretty close.

Early research suggests that 21.6% of prospective buyers are looking at an Xbox One X, compared to 22.2% for the PS4 Pro, with seven million consoles expected to be sold in North America alone within the next two quarters. When you consider all product families, this Xbox One figure rises to 36.6% of the vote, with PS4 coming in at 35.6%.

"What the broader takeaway (from our research) implies is that Microsoft's gamble is going to pay off," Lewis Ward, IDC's research director of gaming and VR/AR, said. "It does appear to stabilise the slide that Microsoft has been on, which I think is a positive step. It looks like, in North America, that the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X will be neck-and-neck in sales for at least the next six months or so and if that happens, you have to say that's a win for Microsoft."

It remains to be seen how true this will be, but do you think this is a good prediction?
