Gears of War 4 is celebrating its one-year anniversary very soon, but now the official website has revealed some new details on the enhancements the game is getting for the Xbox One X, and there's plenty that's being changed.

As expected, we'll be getting "true 4K visuals" as part of this upgrade (3840x2160) via the Visuals Rendering Mode, and even if you've got a 1080p screen, the supersampling should give you a noticeable improvement too.

HDR is also mentioned in the post. "High Dynamic Range provides increased contrast between lights and darks. Battling your way through a lightning flurry in a windflare has never looked better. Gears of War 4 on Xbox One X supports a wide color gamut for true-to-color definition - just as the artists intended - and now at 4K resolution."

We've already mentioned the Visuals Rendering Mode, but there's also another - Performance. Here Gears of War will play at up to 60 frames-per-second in 1080p in Campaign and Horde, for the first time on consoles, all with the higher resolution textures and some of the new graphical features. Visuals Rendering Mode, on the other hand, looks better, but runs at the standard 30 FPS we've seen from the game already. In both Rendering Modes, though, Versus will run "at a rock-solid 4K 60FPS (with adaptive resolution scaling)."

Dolby Atmos is now being offered too, to give "immersive, moving audio", and this can be used alongside the Dolby Access app.

In regards to the enhanced visuals, we also get a breakdown of what this contains, including the aforementioned higher resolution textures, enhanced light shafts (god rays), dynamic shadows, increased draw distances, superior reflections, enhanced character textures, and more.

For more on the game, check out the recently released road map ahead, as well as the trailer for the 4K enhancements that we've included down below, both in 4K and 1080p. It's also worth noting that you can get a trial for the game when the Xbox One X releases, so you can see all this for yourself free of charge.

Which game is going to look the best on the new console?
