In a recent interview, Nintendo of America's president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime talked with Engadget about the last year at Nintendo.

After the release of its new hybrid console, the Japanese company is in a strong position again and Fils-Aime is very confident about the future. With the ongoing support of third-party publishers, the Switch achieved something that the Wii U didn't, and Nintendo's US chief admitted some of the reasons for this.

"It also helps that the Switch is an easy sell for developers and consumers alike," Fils-Aime said. "It's powerful enough to use on your TV but portable enough to carry with you. Something Nintendo was never able to accomplish with the Wii U -- it brought Nintendo into the HD era, but its huge gamepad was a pain. You could play games on it away from your TV, but you had to be near the console. And, needless to say, developers didn't warm to its odd two-screen format. Ultimately, the Wii U was simply too weird for, well, everyone."

The man from Nintendo was also asked about any potential VR-related plans, but Reggie doesn't see it as a viable platform for the company, yet.

"We constantly push the edge on technology. But for us, technology needs to be fun. ... We want the technology in our devices to enable a social experience [...] With VR, again, we just continue to put it up against those standards. For us, it's not quite there yet."

Do you agree with Reggie's statements and do you believe we will see Nintendo revolutionise VR one day?
