When Electronic Arts and Dice finally unveiled Star Wars Battlefront II at the EA Play conference back in June, they caught many of us off guard by saying that the game wouldn't get a season pass. They would instead release free updates in the future, and we don't have to wait long for the first batch.

The first update will arrive on December 5 and seems to focus on giving us some extra incentive to play as specific side by asking us to align with the First Order or the Resistance. Your choice won't be just for show, as each side will get special challenges that will reward them with faction specific items. We're also told that we'll see our faction's progress reflected in-game, without getting to know exactly how.

Then it's time for the big one. December 13 will please both multiplayer and single-player fans alike. This is the day that the previously announced Finn and Captain Phasma will be made available, and can be purchased with in-game credits. Whichever faction is victorious in completing the most challenges that week will also be rewarded with a special crate of high-power upgrades for Finn or Phasma.

It doesn't stop there either, as The Last Jedi premieres the same week. The developers want to celebrate this with loads of new content from the film. We're getting a new planetary map with Crait, a new Starfighter Assault map above D'qar, access to Tallie Lintra's RZ-2 A-wing as a hero ship, and secret new ability for Poe Dameron's T-70 X-wing. Not too shabby, but we're also getting something that we definitely didn't expect, a story expansion.

Iden Versio's adventures continue in the expansion called Resurrection. This will let us take control over Versio during the days of the First Order's rise to power. A nice surprise for those who thought we'd only get more content for the multiplayer portion of the game.

Do you think this sounds promising, or were you hoping for more?

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It never gets boring watching Yoda rip through enemy lines with his lightning-quick lightsaber (as long as he's on your side, of course)."
