After multiple rumours, finally there is a confirmation. Amazon has signed a deal with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line, to develop and stream a TV series based on the Lords of the Rings universe. It's important to note that it won't follow the events of the Lords of the Rings, but rather it is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's work and will feature original stories from that universe.
It was also confirmed that the plan is for it to span multiple seasons, although no further details where revealed. There's no cast, director, or scheduled release yet, so don't expect it to land anytime soon.
The series will stream on Amazon's own streaming service, Prime Video, that's is being positioned as a competitor to Netflix and HBO.
Thanks, The Guardian.
