During the Sony conference at Paris Games Week, Quantic Dream presented a demo for Detroit: Become Human that ended up causing some controversy. There were some criticisms regarding the issue of family abuse, although not everyone agreed with the criticism being made. During the Lisbon Games Week we had the chance to ask Adam Williams, Lead Game Writer, about the studio's thoughts on the matter, and here's what he told us:

"When we started working on Detroit: Become Human, we didn't decide to just create a sequence like that, instead, the story took us as a natural process. We are telling a story with depth, and that sometimes leads us to some very dark places. If a movie or a book won't shy away from exploring these mature themes, then we see no reason why a game shouldn't either, as long as it's done respect and responsibility, and that has been our priority from the start. We take our responsibility as creators very seriously, regarding what to show or not to show. It was never our intention to exploit these themes, or present them gratuitously. "

"I can also assure you that we continue to remain true to our vision, and David Cage's vision, the vision of telling an honest story with meaningful impact. We won't shy away from where the story takes us, as long as it is consistent with our vision. We would never tell a story that glorifies any type of violence or social issue, but we believe the game would have less impact without these themes or serious consequences. It wouldn't be an honest look at our society."

You can see the demo that started the controversy in the video below, and expect the full interview with Adam Williams soon. Detroit: Become Human arrives in 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4. What do you make of Williams' response?
