Update: In the original version of this story, we wrote that PUBG had surpassed Minecraft in terms of copies sold on PC, and that it was the best-selling game on the platform. That, however, may not be the case. While Microsoft does indeed report a lower number of sales compared to PUBG's reported 27.9 million, it's not clear whether that figure includes sales before Microsoft took over.

Even if PUBG has legitimately outsold Minecraft - which it very well might have done - the other issue with the original story is that it doesn't take into account a certain shooter called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is apparently owned by close to 40 million people. Apologies for the mixup, folks.

Original: Last year we wrote a number of news pieces charting the insane popularity of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and the sales milestones it subsequently achieved. Now it seems as though the game has reached the biggest milestone of them all, and according to stats shared by SteamSpy it has sold 27.9 million copies.

To achieve this feat PUBG has moved ahead of Minecraft, which at the time of writing has shifted 27.6 million copies (this according to Microsoft). The stats on SteamSpy do have a margin of error, but even accounting for that the site has PUBG ahead of Mojang's record-breaker. If it's true, we think congratulations are in order to Brendan Greene and the team over at Bluehole.
