Sony disappointed many gamers when they decided to shut down Evolution Studios, the developers of Motorstorm and Driveclub, back in 2016, but Codemasters turned those frowns upside down a few months later when they revived the studio to work on Onrush. Not everyone at the studio made the shift over to Codemasters however, as some of the developers wanted to test their creativity by making something else than racing games. A few of these have now reunited to create their own studio and game.

The independent Liverpool-based studio is called Wushu Studios and includes industry veterans such as studio founder Alan McDermott (the Motorstorm series and Driveclub), design director Nigel Kershaw (the Motorstorm series and Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse), and art director Stuart Trevor (Motorstorm and Dark Souls). You'd think that people with these backgrounds would make a new racing game, but that's not the case. Instead, they're working on a new unnamed game that has a "tantalizing and unexpected take on the science fiction genre". To quote a statement from McDermott:

"It's definitely not what people will be expecting to see from us; it's absolutely not a racing game!"

This is actually one of the reasons why they decided to make their own studio. All of them wanted to get away from the AAA grind and instead create games with interesting mechanics and unique concepts that they would love to play themselves.

That's pretty much all they can say right now, as both the studio and its game are still in their infancy (the game has been in prototype since September 2017), but we're told to expect more details in the coming months. They are also looking for more talented folks to join their studio, so you can drop them a line on their website if you're interested in joining them.
