Microsoft surprised us somewhat when they decided to delay the launch of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition last October, the very same month it was supposed to arrive. It was short notice, but the developers said they needed more time to deliver the tested and polished product they had set out to make, and this testing and polishing seems to be done, as we have a new release date.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is now set to launch on February 20 and it'll cost £14.99 / €19.99. We'll get to try it out earlier than that, however, as we're also told that they'll be opening up the ongoing multiplayer beta to more players starting January 29, and that everyone will get to try it out before launch.

Finally, they reiterate some of the improvements this new version will come with, including better textures, 4K support, playing online with Xbox Live, re-recorded soundtrack, added campaign narration for every mission, and enhanced campaign and scenario editors. Is this the best news you could've received today?
